Propylene glycol made by catalyst process. 150202

The project's success would be their ability to develop the right catalyst. they settled on a rhenium-

based catalyst and first observed PG yields from glycerol hydrogenolysis in the 80-90% range.

In March 2011, ADM opened a PG plant in Decatur, ILL., based on the technology. It has capacity of

100,000 tons per year, enough to meet 20% of U.S. demand.
